Thanks for all the great answers to yesterday’s question. I got lots of good responses and it was a pretty diverse group of answers. There wasn’t a lot of people choosing one power over another. In case you missed it, this was the question:

If you could have one super power, what would it be?

This is a question Sean asks me all the time, and every time he picks one of two things and I pick the same thing. Sean either chooses teleportation or telepathy. He either wants to be able to go any place he wants in an instant or be able to move things just by thinking of it and looking at them. Now here’s my theory on people choosing super powers. I think we tend to choose things that most fit what our personality is really like. Sean, God love him,is a great kid but not always the most motivated to do things, so of course he would pick something where he either doesn’t have to move on his own, like teleporting, or where he can move things without moving, like telepathy. Out of everyone who answered, every answer I saw fits well with the personality of the person who answered it. We want to be able to control the things that seem most out of our control, in my opinion. So you’ll choose to be able to fly because it will let you move quickly from place to place so you have more control over what happens, or because, like Superman, you want to be able to get to as many places as you can to help as many people as you can. I used to have students write about this in their journals early on because I think it reveals a lot about what type of person you are. Like my aunt, I would choose the power to be invisible. I freely admit that I think it fits my personality well. I want to be unseen, just blend into the background and not be noticed. I think I have been like that most of my life. I would like to able to move around from place to place and not be noticed at all. Not that I would want to anything devious with being able to do that (although I guess you certainly could, as with any super power, hence the super villain), but to move around and not be noticed would be okay with me. I think a lot of that leads back to the shyness I deal with. Maybe some of it is that this way if I make a mistake, no one will notice it. I think that may be part of it as well. Anyway, I think it’s a pretty revealing little exercise. When I look back on some of the stories I have written, there are a number of references to being invisible or characters who can be invisible, so I am sure that reveals something about my personality as well.

Thanks again to everyone who took the time to answer and a special thank you to Kurt Warner and Sir Mix-a-Lot (I was really surprised to get a response from him) who took the time to give me an answer as well. On to today’s question. Since this is a long holiday weekend for most, and the beginning of the summer season, I thought I would try a related question to that. Since I do have a love for cooking and food (see my other blog at http://www.onedadskitchen.com, shameless plug) this seemed like a good one to try:

Since the summer season is upon us, if you were going on a picnic and could go anywhere you wanted, where would you go and what would you bring?

Let’s assume you could use your super powers and go any place you want and bring anything you want. There are lots of places to choose from: beaches, parks, the mountains, a deserted island, your rooftop, the Eiffel Tower,  it could be any place. Somewhere that you can relax and enjoy your picnic with whomever you want, or by yourself if you choose. Think about what you would want to bring – it can be anything as decadent or as light as you like, a nice bottle of wine, some fine cheese, or just some sandwiches or hot dogs, whatever makes you happy. Think about it and let me know. You can answer on here, or on Facebook or Twitter. I’ll also ask some people on Twitter and see if they respond. I’ll post my answer tomorrow.

Thankfully I am hitting a slower period with the work I am doing, so hopefully I have some time to do some actual creative writing for a change. I’ve been thinking so much about it lately and just haven’t had the time to do anything about it. I have a lot of ideas rattling around and I need to get them down somewhere, so hopefully I can get to it and actually get something on here. Until then I’ll keep moving along and trying to get things together to do that. If you ever have anything you would like to share, please feel free to leave a comment or contact me and I’d be happy to post whatever you like, whether it’s a question you think would be fun to ask, a poem, a story, an idea, whatever you’ve got. Until next time, enjoy your day and don’t forget to do something creative today!

I know it seems like an odd title, but I was trying to put my two questions together and I couldn’t think of anything else, so that’s how it goes today. I got some good answers to yesterday’s question. I am glad so many people are smiling in the morning! In case you forgot, or didn’t read it, or even if you don’t care, here was yesterday’s question:

What was the first thing to make you smile today?

Everyone has something, whether you wrote in an answer or not. Michelle and Sean both told it was our dog Flash that made them both smile first thing in the morning. He is always happy to see everyone, and even more happy when they are awake so he has someone to play with(or so he thinks anyway). Yesterday, however, Flash was not the first thing to make me smile (though he tried by putting his nose in my face as I woke up). Yesterday was a very early day, and typically Wednesday’s are a busy day for me. Michelle had to leave the house very early to travel on business, so she was gone rather quickly and I didn’t get a chance to smile at her, otherwise I am sure she would have been first. The first thing to make me smile yesterday was seeing my little friend Liam. Liam is my nephew who is almost two now. I’ve been providing a place for him for daycare since he was only a few weeks old and his parents needed to get back to work. I was home anyway, working from home, taking care of the house, so I offered my services. my work limits me to having him only on Wednesday’s now, but he always brings a smile to my face. Now that he’s a little older and interacts with you more and has more to say, he makes the day fun and interesting. He almost always comes in with a smile, and Flash loves to see him since they chase each other around the house for hours playing. Liam usually walks in and goes right for Flash’s leash so we can take him out for a walk. So we spend the day playing, reading, eating and watching the Fresh Beat Band and when he takes his nap I get a little work in. Since he’s pretty mobile now, he keeps me moving, which is probably a good thing. Anyway, he looks up at me with his smiling face and I have to smile back, so that was the first thing to make me smile yesterday.

Thanks to everyone that answered the question yesterday and special thanks to R.A. Dickey, Minnie Driver, Ricki Lake and Melanie Griffith for taking the time to answer as well. Now on to today’s question. Today’s question is actually inspired by Sean, since it’s one that he asks me all the time and one that he writes about a lot, so I thought I would use it today:

If you could have one super power, what would it be?

I figure with the Avengers and all these super hero movies around now, I am sure everyone has thought of what it would be like to have one of those powers. So, what would you want? What would you do with the power if you had it. I have my own theories about the power you choose, but I will elaborate more on that when I answer tomorrow. For now, think about it and let me know. You can answer here, or on Facebook or Twitter. I’ll also ask a few people on Twitter and see if they respond and what they have to say. I think it’s a fun question to think about. I’ll let you know what Sean picks too.

That’s it for now; I won’t say for today because if I feel like writing something later on I might be back. Until then, have a great day and don’t forget to do something creative today!

Thanks for all the contributions yesterday. Michelle and I had a nice evening with Sean on our anniversary. After 19 years and everything else we’ve been through, I think we realize at this point that sometimes it’s just nice to be in the same room together at the same time, nothing fancy, just some time together. Which, in a way, leads me into my answer to yesterday’s question of:

Can you sum up what loves mean to you in one sentence?

I thought a lot about this and how the best way to answer would be for me. In a way, Katie Couric’s response to my question I think is pretty tight on. I went through a lot of versions of this but this seems to be the best one, I think and it’s the simplest way I can put it:

Love is a gift.

Now let me explain what I think that means. In my opinion, love truly is a gift. It’s not only a gift given to you  by someone, whether it is a parent, a child, a lover, a spouse or a friend but something you can give to some else as well. To me, it’s probably the best thing you can give or receive. It makes you feel like nothing else in the world – happy, proud, ecstatic, excited – all at that same time. It gets your emotions churning in ways you never knew it could before, and that’s a good thing. When someone tells you they love you, the feeling you get from that is almost indescribable. I have a friend who only talk to once or twice a year. She’s a dear friend and she gave me some good advice many times, but in particular she said this to me: make sure you always tell the people who are important to you that you love them. End every day or conversation with that, because you never know if you are going to get the opportunity to tell them that again, and it’s important that they know how much they mean to you. I agree with that, and love is such a gift that you should be willing to share it with those that are important to you. Every morning, Sean tells me he loves me when he gets out of the car to go to school and that just makes me feel so special and incredible that all the little things don’t matter. He gives me that gift every day and you have no idea how great I think it is that at 11 years old he is still willing to say that to his parents. Every morning when Michelle leaves we say it to each other and end every phone call that way. Life’s too precious not to share that.

The illness I had and still carry with me has had a big effect on me, of course, in my daily life but also in the way I approach my relationships with family, friends and other people in general, and in a way, I think it effects the way I see love as a gift. I honestly believe that it is all the love I felt from everyone and from God that helped to save me. I think there is no doubt about that. I have heard the stories of all the people praying for me all over the country, of people praying in my room and praying with Michelle and the love that was generated from all that was an incredible gift that was given to me, one that I don’t think I can ever re-pay to everyone. The only wat I can think of to give back is with love, and sharing that feeling, this gift, that I have been given. Now I know it sounds kind of sappy, but that’s okay, you can think of me that way if you want to, I have no problem with that. But when you think about love, or you get the feeling of love yourself, don’t you want to share that feeling with other people? it makes you feel so good that you want everyone to experience it. Isn’t that why we invite others to wedding ceremonies (besides that fact that you need a new toaster or vase?), so that we can share this gift with those that are close to us? That’s what it means to me anyway.

Thank you again to everyone who answered, and a special thank you to Katie Couric for taking the time to answer me. So let’s move on to today’s question, which just kind of came to this morning. I had planned to ask about something completely different today, but this one came to me instead:

What was the first thing to make you smile today?

Even if you are having a really crappy day, something happened along the way this morning to make you smile at some point, admit it. So what was it? It could be something really simple like the water was hot when you got in the shower, or your spouse made you a cup of coffee when you really needed it, or the dog jumped up and licked your face because he was happy to see you (that did happen to me this morning, but it wasn’t the first thing that made me smile). Whatever it happens to be, think about it and let me know. you can answer on here, or on Facebook or Twitter. I’ll also pose the question to some people on Twitter and see if they respond. I’ll post my answer tomorrow.

I guess that’s it for right now. I’ve got a bunch of ideas floating around in my head for different things that I need to write down before I forget them. If you ever have anything you want to contribute, a story, poem, song, a question or just anything at all, please feel free to leave a comment or drop me a note at IguanaFlats@msn.com. I hope you have a great day and don’t forget to do something creative today!

With all my apologies to Raymond Carver (and if you’ve never read the book of stories or any of his work, I do recommend it) for usurping his title, but it does lead me into answering yesterday’s question and starting today’s question. Thank you to all who answered yesterday’s question of:

What was your favorite breakfast cereal when you were growing up?

A special thanks to Larry Fitzgerald for answering yesterday. We also found out his favorite movie is “Coming to America,” although that was kind of an accident (you can check the comment from yesterday’s blog to see what I mean). Anyway, everyone had very different answers to this one. For me personally, I tried to narrow it down between a couple. I am not a cereal eater anymore, of any type (I don’t like milk, never have) and it’s hard for me to pick one that I could say was my favorite. I was always fond of Apple Jacks and that nice cinnamon flavor you would get from it, but I don’t remember them tasting anything at all like apples. I guess that was their way of making people think there was something healthy in there. I never cared much for cereal that was in flakes either; they just got too soggy too fast and it was like eating little pieces of wet cardboard. I think if I had to pick two as my favorites, one would have to be Cap’n Crunch. There was something about it that I just liked the flavor of and it was always nice and crunchy, so much so that it often tore the roof of your mouth with its sharp corners. I don’t want the peanut butter one, and I could do without the Crunch Berries, just plain old Cap’n Crunch was fine with me.

Of course, another favorite of mine would have to be Lucky Charms. I am not a big fan of marshmallows, but there was something about those bits of colored sugar in that cereal that tasted good. Everyone would try to just pick them out of course and leave the plain cereal for whoever got to the box last, but I di still enjoy them, and who couldn’t like a cereal with a leprechaun as its spokesperson?

Now on to today’s question. Today is mine and Michelle’s wedding anniversary. We’ve been married for 19 years this year, and I wanted to let everybody know ow much she means to me and how much she has enriched my life, so today’s question centers around love:

Can you sum up what love means to you in one sentence?

I know this is no easy task and probably takes some thinking on everyone’s part, but that’s okay, putting a little brain power into something never hurt anyone. If you go over one sentence, the word police won’t come knocking on your door to drag you away. Besides, if you are creative with grammar, you can make one sentence last a very long time; just ask James Joyce (okay don’t ask him, he probably won’t answer you at this point, and if he does, let me know quick!). Anyway, that’s besides the point. Everyone has experienced love in some form during their lifetime, so just think about what it means to you, how it makes you feel, what it can make you do. Think about it and get back to me. You can leave an answer on here, on Facebook or on Twitter. I’ll also pose the question to some people on Twitter and see if they respond. I’ll post my answer tomorrow.

That’s it for today kids. I have to get back to doing some work. These construction articles don’t write themselves you know. I’ll be back tomorrow with some more rantings, gibberish and other writings for you. To my lovely wife Michelle, thank you for the most wonderful 19 years I have known. Happy anniversary. Enjoy the rest of your day, think about love, and do something creative today – maybe you can roll all 3 into one!

Thanks to everyone who took the time to answer yesterday’s question, although some people may have not answered because they were too busy enjoying their Sunday instead of spending time on the computer (completely understandable by the way, it was a beautiful day here in New York yesterday). Anyway, I said I already knew what my answer was to the question:

What is your idea of the perfect Sunday?

I do have two visions of the perfect Sunday. One is an idea I am using in a short story I am working on about a Sunday, so sadly I am not going to be sharing that one just yet. It kind of gives away the whole storyline if I get into right now, and I don’t want to do that just yet, so you’ll have to wait a little bit longer for that one. I’ll probably put it on here on a Sunday coming up soon. As for the Sunday that I consider perfect, it’s actually pretty simple. Like most people, I would want the perfect Sunday to be with my family, so I would Michelle and Sean (and Flash too of course) there with me. I love the Sundays where we just laze around in our pajamas until 11 AM (or sometimes longer) and then have a leisurely brunch or lunch that Michelle or I make. Sometimes it’s just some toasted bagels and coffee or juice, sometimes it’s more with bacon and eggs, but we try not to make it too complicated. After brunch, it’s usually back to lying around, everyone reading their different books. I love to spend Sunday doing the New York Times Crossword in the morning with my cup of coffee and listening to some Miles Davis, Charlie Parker, Lester Young or whatever other jazz I feel like listening to that day. After a few hours of lying around reading, I’ll make us a nice dinner, nothing too fancy ( I save that for when we have our guests over for Sunday dinner) or maybe we’ll just order out and get some Chinese food or some Planet Wings. By then it’s evening, we’re still in our pajamas, the television has never been turned on all day and maybe we have played a board game or two and it’s time for bed after we have spent the whole day together. Very nice.

That’s my ideal Sunday. Again, thanks to those who answered and thanks to Geoffrey Zakarian who took the time to answer the question as well. That brings us to today’s question. I like to think about things that bring us back to our childhood when we didn’t have all the worries we have now as adults. We didn’t have to worry about mortgages, taxes, unemployment, health benefits, eating right, exercising and all that. We got up in the morning, went about our day and went to bed at night. So speaking of getting up in the morning, let’s have a fun question today, something light and easy before we get into heavy stuff later on in the week, It is Monday after all:

What was your favorite breakfast cereal growing up?

Now maybe it’s still your favorite breakfast cereal, and that’s okay too, but we all had that special cereal we begged our parents to get for us and we looked forward to having every morning. What was yours? You can answer on here, or on Facebook or Twitter. I’ll also ask a few people on Twitter and see if anyone answers. I’ll post my answer tomorrow.

As always, if you have anything you would like to contribute to the blog, please feel free to contact me (there are many ways, or you can email me at IguanaFlats@msn.com) and I would be happy to share whatever you would like to share. I really do intend to start posting some fiction on here, it’s just a matter of having the time to organize and refine what I have and getting over my complete anxiety about having my fiction out there for others to see. It’s not something I have shared much of, so there is some trepidation on my part. Anyway, I’ll get over it eventually 🙂 Until next time, don’t forget to do something creative today!

Thanks for all the answers and input from yesterday’s question. In case you missed it, it was:

What is your go-to karaoke song?

Now, I don’t karaoke. I’m way too shy and self-conscious, not to mention that I can’t sing a lick. I know a lot of people do it anyway that can’t sing; they just like the fun of the experience of doing it. I just can’t bring myself to do that. I don’t even sing out loud when I am alone listening to music. So to fly in the face of that, when I was in Helen Hayes Hospital doing my rehab after being sick in 2009, one of my therapies was  breathing and speech therapy. It was weird being told that you had to re-learn how to breathe and speak properly, but that was part of my daily routine for 2 months. I would spend 45 minutes a day working with the breathing therapist and 45 minutes a day working with a speech therapist. One of the things the breathing therapist decided was that every Friday we would spend the session singing and doing karaoke, since it was good breathing exercise. Needless to say, I was less than thrilled to hear this.I did the breathing therapy along with another patient who was paralyzed in a surfing accident and was trying to get everything back. In the big scheme of things, he was worse off than I was since he could barely move at all. By this time I had at least some function in my hands so I was better off. He was a nice guy, but like me, he was pretty shy and considering everything he had been through I can understand why. Anyway, we didn’t have much of a choice and we had to sing every Friday. So I picked two songs that I figured I could handle and did those most of the time. The first was The Rolling Stones “Paint it Black.” The words were easy and the tone seemed easy to handle so I did it. We played on the American Idol video game so it tracked how you did with your pitch and everything so the therapist could see how we did. It went fairly painlessly. The other song I chose was “Seven Nation Army” by the White Stripes. The therapist had never heard this song before, and to be honest, I chose it because there isn’t a lot of singing involved in it; it’s mostly instrumental so I didn’t have to do too much :).

That’s my answer. Thanks again to those who answered and to Donald Faison for providing his answer (if you aren’t sure who he is, he played Turk on “Scrubs,” one of may favorite shows). So that brings us to today’s question, which is:

What is your idea of the perfect Sunday?

Since it’s such a beautiful day here in New York, and it is Sunday, it seemed like a good question. Typically, Sunday is a big relaxation day for most people. I was wondering what you consider to be the perfect way to spend the day. To be honest, I am also working on a story that centers around a Sunday, so if you give me some good ideas, I may be able to incorporate them into the story. What’s your idea of the best way to spend the day? I already know my answer to this question, but you’ll have to wait until tomorrow to see it. Do you just like to laze around, work in the garden, watch television or dance around the house naked? Whatever it is, let me know. You can leave your answer on here, on Facebook or on Twitter. I’ll ask some people on Twitter too and see if the respond. I’ll post my answer tomorrow.

I hope you’re enjoying the rest of your day. I am going to try to do some more writing before I get back to do some “work” writing today, so make sure you have some fun and don’t forget to do something creative today!

Good responses to yesterday’s question! Thanks to everyone who took the time to answer:

Who was the last person you said “Thank You” to today?

I got quite a mix of answers; I guess it really depended on what you happened to be doing right before you decided to answer my question. A lot of people mentioned it was somebody they were speaking to out in the world of retail, whether it was a server, a cashier or a salesperson. As someone who worked in retail for many years, believe me, it’s greatly appreciated when someone takes the time to just say thank you to you. Sadly, it’s not something you hear very often when you’re working in a store, restaurant, bar or in any type of service industry. Many people just seem to take it for granted that you are there to do as they ask and nothing more, it really doesn’t matter how hard you are working to try to please them because that’s your job. I always try to make sure I thank whoever it is that is there, whether it’s a cashier, a waitress, bartender or whoever. some people look honestly surprised when you say thanks to them because they hardly ever hear it. It’s nice to know that i still deal with people who are thoughtful and have manners.

So why do so many people forget to say it? I think a lot of people just assume that you know they are grateful for whatever the reason may be and don’t bother to say it. Then there are others who I guess just don’t care whether they say it or not; they feel they are entitled to whatever it is and life doesn’t go much beyond that. It’s kind of sad when you think about it. Something so simple and easy to say to someone and it just gets swept under the rug.

So I think that’s something that should change and everyone should tell somebody every day thanks for something that maybe you take for granted. And it doesn’t have to be said for something that just occurred. It could be for something that happened to you 30 years ago. I know there are people in my life who I probably should have gone back to and said thank you for a lot of things, and for one reason or another I never did. You always take for granted that it’s understood or that you’ll have more time in life to get to those things, but unfortunately that’s not always true. There are too many people I can think of that I’ll never see again that I never got to thank for a lot of things. People who had a profound influence on my life and may never have known it all. That’s something I truly regret and now it can’t be fixed. Since I have been given a second chance at life (at least that is how I look at it) I want to try to change that and tell people who deserve to know that they have had an effect on me.

yesterday, the last person I said thank you to was Sean for helping me pick up a few things in the living room, but I also said thank you to him yesterday for being the good person that he is. I heard nothing but good things at his IEP from all his teachers and therapists about how hard he works, but also about how friendly and courteous he is and is always willing to help other kids. it made me so happy to hear that I did say thank you to him for making me so proud to be his parent. I also took the time to send a note to his vision therapist who he has worked with for 4 years now and I thanked her for all the hard work she has put in to help him, working with him in school and coming to meet before school even starts so they can work on things. She truly has been a godsend, so I had to thank her for all her efforts and kindness.

I think everyone should take a little time and try to get in touch with someone and say thank you for all they have done for you. So if you get a little note from me sometime soon, it’s just because I wanted to take a minute to say thanks for all that you have done for me. And feel free to do the same to somebody who perhaps you haven’t thanked. Pick up the phone, write a note or an email. Or the next time someone is really helpful to you in the store, or a restaurant or on the phone or wherever, just saying thanks can make their day. And probably yours too.

Now on to today’s question. Michelle and Sean went to the movies tonight (it’s their date night, they haven’t had a chance to do that in a while) so I was trying to think of a fun question for tonight. Let’s try this one:

What is your go-to karaoke song?

I know a lot of you karaoke, so don’t be shy! Even if you don’t you can still answer with the one song you think you could belt out at the karaoke night or with one of the many video games you can sing along with. even if it’s something you just sing when you are alone, that’s okay too. Think about it and let me know. You can answer on here, on Facebook or on Twitter. I’ll also ask some people on Twitter and see if they respond. Thank you by the way to Michelle Branch and Colin Hanks for answering yesterday’s question. I’ll post my answer on here tomorrow.

Okay, that’s all for now. A big thank you to everyone who takes the time to read and follow along with this blog. I  am having a lot of fun doing it. if you ever have anything you would like to add to the blog, just contact me and let me know, I’ll be glad to share whatever you have to offer. Have a great night and don’t forget to do something creative today!

I was trying to think about what I wanted to write today. The new job doesn’t give me much of a chance to write anything until I get caught up on the writing for it, and very often I feel out of steam and not much like writing anything after I have spent hours in front of the computer reading and writing. I want to have more time to write and more energy to write. I have constant ideas that I am jotting down in my notebooks but I never seem to get time to do anything with them. Any suggestions? I feel like I need something to kick-start me on the right path. If you have any ideas let me know.

Anyway, now that the rant is over with, I can get on with yesterday’s question. It was:

Finish this sentence: I hate it when . . .

Well everyone has their own way of finishing that sentence. I know, hate is a strong word, I didn’t mean hate as much as I mean you really dislike when something happens, or someone says something or does something, you fins it irritating, it gets under your skin. Most of us don’t say or do anything about it when these things happen; we just kind of grit our teeth, bare what’s happening and move on and then we complain about it to our family, friends, Facebook or anyone who will listen about it. it’s a nice thing about having a blog. If I want to rant and complain about something, I can do it, get it out of my system, and it’s done. The downside is that it’s out there in Internet limbo for any search engine to find. But that’s off topic too. The reason I asked the question was the people I work for asked me if I could them with some articles from another project and I said sure. I did them no problem and continued on with my regular work and then they sent me an email with 6 more articles that they needed back in under 24 hours. Again, I don’t mind the work (I’m grateful that I can get paid to write and work from home, as a matter of fact I am grateful just for the work) but I don’t like not being asked, that it’s just assumed I’ll do it and in their time-frame. It’s kind of presumptuous of them, but I did it and it’s over with, but I do hate it when people just assume you’ll do whatever they ask.

I also hate when Sean just throws his clothes around the room and then complains he has nothing clean to wear. He has a hamper in his room, the laundry gets done every week, he just chooses not to use it and assumes it will get picked up and put in the hamper. I do chalk that one up to being eleven and a pre-teen slob, so I can live with it, but I still get upset enough to mention it EVERY WEEK. I am sure there a hundred other little things that drive me crazy and I could spend all day complaining about them, but that would get to be a bit much for you to read, so I’ll just leave it at that.

Thanks to those who took the time to answer yesterday’s question, and my whole rant kind of leads us right into the next question. I did all that writing and sent it in quickly and never even got a thank you for doing it. If you’ve read my Facebook page, a while back I wrote a note on the whole issue of people saying thank you and how no one does it anymore. So here is today’s question to you:

Who is the last person you said “Thank You” to today?

It’s a pretty simple question. Think as you sit here in front of the computer and try to figure it out. Hopefully the answer comes to you quickly. I am just curious as to who you said it to. I think it will be interesting to see and your answers will give me a good jumping off point for writing about the topic of thank you tomorrow. Think about it and let me know. You can post your answer here, on Facebook or on Twitter. I’ll post my answer tomorrow. I’ll ask a few people on Twitter too and see what kind of response I get.

That’s it for ranting and complaining today. Actually, as I sit here writing all this it gave me a couple of ideas for future posts and some creative writing. See what ranting can do for you? It can help get those creative juices flowing! Enjoy the rest of your day and don’t forget to do something creative today!

We had an awesome time at the Mets game last night, even though the Mets lost. They just can’t seem to score any runs for Johan Santana, but that’s for another rant and another blog :). It was great to get out just the three of us and have some family fun and leave work and everything else behind for a few hours. We all ate ballpark food, well sort of. Ballpark food has sure changed over the years. Sure you can still get a hot dog, a pretzel and popcorn (and we did get popcorn), but you can pretty much get whatever else you might feel like having at Citi Field too. Sean had pizza, which was real New York pizza from Brooklyn, and I have to say even though I am not a big pizza eater, it looked and smelled really good. Instead of having the usual hot dog, I went off the board and tried a hot pastrami on rye from the sandwich shop they have there. It was an awesome grilled pastrami round brisket that they cut and put on fresh rye bread with some great New York deli mustard and the best half sour pickle I have had in a very long time. It was the best pastrami sandwich I have had in ages and I would definitely get it again. Michelle went with a Keith burger from the Keith Hernandez grill and she was a little disappointed in it. The burger itself wasn’t bad, and the greens and tomato on it were super fresh, but she wasn’t thrilled with the amount of mustard on it and didn’t like the taste of it. For the price of the burger ($11.00) it was a disappointment. Sorry Keith. We had great seats by the left field foul pole (where we’ll be for 5 more games this season) and had several balls in batting practice come our way, but we didn’t get any of them.

Well let’s get back to yesterday’s question of:

What’s your favorite baseball memory?

I got lots of good answers to this one, so thanks to everyone who answered, and thanks to Jeremy Heffner of the Buffalo Bisons for answering. Apparently Cliff Floyd answered me last night too on FSN in Florida, but I don’t get FSN and haven’t been able to find any video of it. If I find it, I’ll post it. He hasn’t responded back to my message to him, but I hope he does. We got lots of good answers though. I have lots of good baseball memories. I can remember watching the 1973 World Series on television with my dad and how hard he was rooting for the Mets to win (sadly, they lost). I can remember going to lots of games at Shea Stadium when we lived in Ozone Park, including a Banner Day doubleheader, back in the days of John Milner, Felix Millan, Dave Kingman, and the not so fun days of Mike Vail and Bruce Boisclair. I have fond memories of the Mets winning the World Series in 1986, of going to a game at Camden Yards, of watching Marlon Anderson chug around the bases as he legged out an inside the park home run against the Angels at Shea Stadium and of sitting just a few rows behind home plate at Citi Field with my brother Kevin and my friend Eric 6 months after I got out of the hospital. Some of my best memories though are of minor league games watching the Charlotte Knights with my Dad. We would always try to go to games whenever I visited Charlotte and we even got to go a couple of times after Dad got sick and before he passed away, so those will always be good memories. And there was last year when my brother Don and I took our sons to a Knights game and the first baseman tossed a ball to Sean. The look on his face was well worth it.

So now on to today’s question. I thought of today’s question after I get hit with a bunch of last-minute work. I don’t mind getting the work; I enjoy it, it pays and I get paid for writing, which is a fun thing. I don’t like getting a message at 5 in the morning saying we need this 6 articles written before the end of the day about topics I know nothing about. It was a challenge, I did it and it’s over with, but it got me thinking about today’s question, which is:

Finish this sentence: I really hate it when . . .

This is another one I used with students to get them writing. Everyone has a pet peeve, something that really drives you nuts. You may sit there and do nothing while it happens, grit your teeth and feel your blood pressure rise, or you may actually say something when it happens. It doesn’t matter what it is; nothing is too ridiculous or crazy. Whatever it is that really irks you. It can be whatever you want it to be. You can answer here, or on Facebook or on Twitter.I’ll post my answer tomorrow and I’ll ask some people on Twitter and see if they answer (they may answer that they hate when they get my question, who knows!)

That’s it for today. I’ll leave you with some photos from last night’s game. Have some fun tonight and don’t forget to do something creative today!

Thanks to everyone who answered yesterday’s question. The question was:

“What is your favorite cookie?”

Well, I have two favorites, and Michelle makes both of them. She makes the most awesome chocolate chip cookies ever. She makes them a lot to bring over to other places because people ask her to make them. I don’t know what she does to them (I’m not in the kitchen when she makes them; we don’t share kitchen space nicely, but that’s for another post) but I think Sean and I could most of them before she even gets to pack them up and give them away. There are times when she makes them just for us, and then we can hoard them for days.

She also makes great oatmeal raisin cookies. They are soft and chewy and have just the right mix of raisins in each one. I love the chocolate chips, but the oatmeal raisins are a very close second. I could eat them for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Hmmm, just thinking about them has made me hungry. I’ll try to survive the rest of the day without them. For today’s question, I thought I would ask something that’s relevant to what I am doing today. we have tickets to see the Mets tonight and Sean and I are definitely going, and Michelle may come along with us as well if she doesn’t get bogged down at work. That leads me to today’s question:

What’s your favorite baseball memory?

Now I know not everyone is a crazy baseball junkie like I am, but I do have quite a few friends who love the game, so let’s hear from you. Even if you are just a casual fan, I am sure there is something that stands out for you that you remember. Maybe you have a particular memory of a game you went to with someone special, or something fun or crazy happened at the ballpark the night you were there, or maybe you saw a game on television and the memory has stuck with you. Whatever it may be, let’s hear about it. I have a whole bunch of good baseball memories, so it will be hard for me to narrow it down. I’ll have to really think about this one. You can give your answer here, or on Facebook or Twitter. I’ll post my answer tomorrow and I’ll pose the question to some baseball players on Twitter and see if we get any response.

That’s the question for today. Wednesday is kind of my busy day so I don’t have a lot of time for writing. I really do want to spend some time going over some of my creative writing so I can start putting some stuff on here. If you have anything you would like to share, or a question you would like to ask or share, please feel free to leave a comment here, on my Facebook or Twitter accounts (the links are on this page) or you can send me an email at IguanaFlats@msn.com. I’ll try to take some pictures at the game tonight to post tomorrow as well. Until then, have a great day and try to do something creative today!
