In a Word, a Mother, and What’s That Hidden in the Night Stand?

14May12

We had a very pleasant Mother’s Day yesterday at Michelle’s parents, relaxing, having dinner and sitting outside enjoying everyone’s company. I made some fish for part of the meal, fo which you can get the recipe here on my cooking blog.  It was a nice day and we had a good time. Thanks to everyone who visited the blog yesterday and contributed; it’s much appreciated. So yesterday’s question was “What’s one word you can use to describe your mother?” I thought long and hard about it, and the best word I can think of to describe my mom is:

Sacrifice.

When I think back over the years and right up to this day, I think my mom has sacrificed more than anyone I know. She dedicated her life to her family, staying home and raising six kids so they could have the home life and family values that made us all good people. I’m sure it wasn’t easy for her having to deal with all of us and the various issues and troubles that would come up on a daily, weekly, monthly, yearly, etc. basis, but she made that her career. You always knew (and still know) that she is willing to do whatever she can to try to help, even if that means giving up something for herself to help you out. Driving us to music lessons, little league, dance classes, tests for school and even teaching us how to drive were things that I am sure we all took for granted when they were happening, but mom always made time for it to happen so that we could learn, experience and enjoy life. Even today, she still gives of her time freely to help out with the grandchildren (there are 13 of them now) and help out whenever any of us needs a hand or some advice. So thank you mom, for giving up so much of yourself so that we could benefit. I know you will say you wouldn’t have had it any other way, and that is great for us to hear, but I hope you realize how much we all love and appreciate everything you did and still do for us.

Now on to today’s question. I was putting some papers away this morning and came across a few things in my nightstand that got me thinking and I thought this might be an interesting question for today, so here goes:

Do you have a particular keepsake stashed away that brings you special memories?

Something that you have saved for years but every time you look at it, it brings a smile to your face and lets you think back about a special time in your life or a special person. We all have things we keep stowed away in little boxes on our dresser or in our nightstand, so what is it that you keep that is special to you? Think about it and get back to me. You can leave a comment here, or answer me on Facebook or Twitter. I also pose the question to some people and see if I get any response from them.  And if you have a question you think might be good to pose to everyone or an idea for a good blog post, or some creative writing that you would like to share, please feel free to leave me a comment, send me a message or drop me an email at IguanaFlats@msn.com and I’ll get right back to you.

Enjoy the rest of your day everyone. They are saying rain here in New York for the next 3 days, but then it should be beautiful the rest of the week. Have a great day and don’t forget to do something creative today!
